Former Manchester United striker Victor Osimhen has made a clear claim about Victor Osimhen following on from discussions at Old Trafford.
Manchester United have made a strong start to the summer transfer window, securing the early signing of Matheus Cunha and intensifying their pursuit of Bryan Mbeumo.
While both players would enhance United’s depth in attacking midfield and the No.10 role, the team’s pressing need for a natural centre-forward remains unresolved.
Rasmus Højlund showed flashes of promise last season but lacked consistency, and although Joshua Zirkzee is a gifted forward, he is more effective in a deeper, playmaking role.
A number of strikers have been linked with a move to Old Trafford, but among fans, the standout favourites are Viktor Gyökeres and Victor Osimhen.
Osimhen, who delivered an outstanding 37 goals in 41 appearances during a loan spell at Galatasaray last season, is widely expected to depart Napoli permanently this summer.
Ighalo names Osimhen as one of the best strikers in the world
The Nigerian forward has been considered one of the best strikers in the world in recent years and that is exactly how former United star and fellow countryman, Odion Ighalo, views the situation.
Ighalo, who is someone Osimhen looks up to, believes that the 26-year-old is among the top three goalscorers in world football.
“For me, in the world today, you can’t mention two strikers without his name,” Ighalo told News Central TV. “It’s impossible. He’s doing so well.
“We underrate our own; that’s the problem in Africa. We underrate our own African players and potentials, but if you want to search the world now for a proper goalscorer, tell me two or three, a true No.9, a centre forward and goalscorer.
“Search the world now for two or three, you’ll mention his name.”
Ighalo says Osimhen knows exactly what he wants
It feels unlikely that United will make a move for Osimhen although it has been reported by Laurie Whitwell that discussions over the striker are still being had at Old Trafford despite concerns over his wage demands.
There are several other clubs in the same position as the Reds – they admire the player but are wary about what it will take to find an agreement with his agents.
Ighalo believes that the constant reporting over his future will not impact Osimhen, who is ‘mentally strong’ and also suggested that the striker knows exactly what he wants in terms of his summer move.

“It’s not easy because agents are calling every day, people are talking, the media and all of that, but I think Victor is mentally strong, because he has gone through challenges in his life, even at his age, and he has overcome them,” added Ighalo.
“He knows what he wants. We were together two days ago, but we didn’t talk about football; we just had fun.
“I believe he knows what he wants; he’s a grown-up guy now, he’s worked hard to be where he is today, so he knows what he wants. If he calls me for my opinion, I will tell him, but whatever decision he makes, it’s a win-win for him.”
