Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott was in outstanding form for England U21s in their 2-1 semi-final win against the Netherlands.
Harvey Elliott is captaining England at the U21 Championships, and his performances in Slovakia have somewhat explained why he’s keen to leave Liverpool.
Elliott has started all five games at the tournament and Lee Carsley has built his team around the 22-year-old, a luxury he isn’t afforded at Anfield.
Liverpool appreciate Elliott’s talent, but Arne Slot simply can’t find a regular spot in his starting eleven for the attacking midfielder, who is also effective on the right.
And that explains why the likes of Newcastle United continue to monitor the Englishman’s situation on Merseyside.
Liverpool set their asking price for Harvey Elliott this summer
That considered, TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey has provided the latest on Elliott’s situation, explaining that Liverpool will want more than £40m this summer.
Liverpool are renowned for their expertise in the transfer market when it comes to both buying and selling players.
And Bailey confirmed Liverpool’s strong stance on Elliott too, a player they’re not in a rush to sell.
He said: “I’ve been told Elliott’s asking price is closer to £50m than £40m at the moment.
“Liverpool got nearly £30m for [Fabio] Carvalho last summer and are asking for £30m for [Ben] Doak, so on that scale you can see why they would be wanting well in excess of £40m for Elliott.

“But Liverpool are not in a hurry to sell at all, they know what a good player Elliott is and I think it’s more the player pushing to go in a World Cup year — if he goes somewhere and has a great year he could be in contention for England, stranger things have happened.
“Brighton have played down their interest, they’ve got a lot of options in those areas. But with Joao Pedro leaving, does that increase Elliott’s chances? I suspect it does.
“Elliott’s former club Fulham are also in the mix and Newcastle are interested too, there’s an awful lot of clubs who like him.”
Can Harvey Elliott fix Newcastle’s right wing problem
Part of Elliott’s appeal to Eddie Howe will be his ability to operate from the right, as he has for England U21s of late.
Newcastle never really replaced Miguel Almiron and whilst Jacob Murphy is doing a stellar job out wide, Howe needs further depth for next season.
In terms of Elliott playing as right winger for Liverpool, he does boast a slightly improved goal rate in comparison to when he plays centrally, even if his creativity drops somewhat.
Harvey Elliott Games Goals Goals (per 90) Assists Assists (per 90
Attacking/central midfield 95 9 0.09 20 0.21
Right wing 37 4 0.11 3 0.08
But it’s clearly still a role that the Englishman would need to become more accustomed to.
Elliott often played in a wide right role for Blackburn Rovers whilst on loan in the Championship during the 2021/22 season.
However, he might not be an immediate candidate to replace Murphy, and Newcastle do want to sign Joao Pedro partly to play in that role.
