'No intention': David Ornstein has spoken about the possibility of Alexander Isak leaving…

· 26 June 2025, 14:30

**The future of Alexander Isak is one of the hottest topics this summer as rumours circulate about Liverpool launching a record-breaking bid to land the Newcastle United striker.**

Even those writing the stories probably know that they are talking pure testicles, but they also know that there's enough interest in the story that it will keep punters coming back to read.

Having already broken the £100 million barrier once this summer, the rumour is that the Reds will look to do it again with a raid on Newcastle for Alexander Isak.

The reality is, however, that they still likely can't afford him, regardless of how financially stable they are, Newcastle don't want to sell, and Isak has shown no interest in leaving Newcastle.

David Ornstein believes there is little to no chance of Alexander Isak leaving Newcastle

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Athletic's David Ornstein is often seen as a reliable source of information and he has now come out and spoken about the reality of Liverpool's likelihood of signing Isak, which, spoiler alert, is practically zero.

> “Newcastle have no intention of selling Isak whatsoever, and want to renew his contract. "They’re in a strong position with over three years remaining on his current deal, as part of which he is already paid well. They’ll have no problem offering more, too - he’s at the centre of that ambitious Saudi-led project.” “From the player’s point of view, he has top level football secured with Newcastle’s qualification for next season’s Champions League, and he won the club their first trophy in a long time. He looks to be happy - always with a smile on his face.”

>

> “It could take around £150m just to start a conversation - there’s no suggestion of any developments despite recent rumours and reports. Liverpool may try, but that doesn’t mean they’ll succeed…”

Liverpool would have to free up some money in the budget for hefty wages to Isak

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ornstein goes on to make the point that it's not just about the transfer figures, it's about the salary too, and to make both work, they'd have to sell players first.

But with a £150 million bid being what it would take just to get a foot in the door, you'd expect quite a big rise on top of that to get the deal done and unless Liverpool are prepared to pay £200 million for Isak, we can be pretty confident that he's staying on Tyneside for now.

Hopefully, contract talks will pick up again next week and will be concluded swiftly so we can all move on from this nonsense.
