Jamie Carragher's verdict on Milos Kerkez will be tested as Liverpool now make £40m deal official

Liverpool continue to be active in the summer transfer window ahead of the new season as they aim to bolster the squad on the back of winning the Premier League.

The Reds have already signed Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen. His teammate Florian Wirtz also joins Liverpool after the Reds broke the British transfer record to secure his signing.

And they have now officially announced their third signing of the summer as Milos Kerkez joins Liverpool from Bournemouth.

His signing sees the wish of former Reds defender Jamie Carragher comes true, who had previously urged the club to sign him.

What Jamie Carragher said about new Liverpool signing Milos Kerkez

Kerkez enjoyed a remarkable season in the Premier League with the Cherries, earning widespread praise from fans and pundits alike.

While Liverpool had a solid season last campaign, one weakness in the side that was consistently noticed was the left side of the defence.

Andy Robertson had a difficult individual season, consistently underperforming from his otherwise high standards, with the Scot responsible for several mistakes leading to goals.

The left-back issue was highlighted by Carragher, who urged Liverpool to sign Kerkez. Speaking to Sky Sports, he said:

“We’ve just spoken about Liverpool’s left-back situation and the fact Andy Robertson needs help. Now listen, he’s been a revelation at Bournemouth, the only reason why I mention Liverpool is that fact that, yes they are probably looking for someone in that position, but also because the sporting director who brought him to Bournemouth is now the sporting director at Liverpool.

“He’s aggressive, he’s got pace. Even when you look at him he looks like a full-back, small, really aggressive and after wingers on that side. He’s been superb since he’s come into the Premier League for Bournemouth and it’s one to watch for the future whether he stays or leaves.”

Andy Robertson linked with Liverpool exit

Robertson has been linked with a move away from Liverpool, with Atletico Madrid showing strong interest in signing him.

TBR Football has previously reported that Robertson is keen on joining Atletico Madrid as well, with the Spanish club opening talks with the player’s representatives.

Robertson moved to Anfield from Hull City for just £8m, a transfer that has gone down as one of the club’s best signings of the recent era.

He has made 342 appearances for the club so far, scoring 11 goals and providing 67 assists, winning every major trophy available.

His potential departure will mark the end of an illustrious career at Liverpool.
