Arsenal Women in the Market for New Goalkeeper

[Freddie Cardy](https://www.onlinegooner.com/articles/view/exclusive-arsenal-women-set-to-begin-talks-with-former-wolfsburg-goalkeeper-anneke-borbe) reports that Arsenal Women are in talks with Anneke Borbe, the former VfL Wolfsburg goalkeeper. With Daphne van Domselaar currently Arsenal’s first-choice goalkeeper and Manuela Zinsberger as backup, the potential arrival of Borbe could signal Zinsberger’s departure from the club. Arsenal are not the only club in talks with the free agent.

Borbe began her career in the youth system at Werder Bremen in 2015, making her senior debut in 2017 at just 16 years old. She went on to make 60 appearances in the Frauen-Bundesliga for Bremen before transferring to VfL Wolfsburg in 2023. The 24-year-old featured in 10 matches for Wolfsburg, including appearances in the UEFA Women’s Champions League.

On the international stage, Borbe has represented Germany at multiple youth levels—from U15 to U19. However, she has yet to break into the senior national team, competing with top goalies like Ann-Katrin Berger, Stina Johannes, and Ena Mahmutovic for a spot.

VfL Wolfsburg have signed Norwegian international Thea Bjelde on a contract running through June 2028. The 25-year-old arrives from Vålerenga, where she joined in 2021 and made 117 appearances, including in the UEFA Women’s Champions League.

On the international stage, Bjelde has represented Norway at the U17 and U19 European Championships. She made her senior debut in 2022 and started in all of Norway’s matches at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup. She is also part of the 23-player squad heading to the [UEFA Women’s EURO](https://womenfootball.blog/womens-euro-2025-schedule/) this summer.

“Joining VfL feels like the perfect next step in my career,” said Bjelde. “The club is synonymous with great tradition, ambitious goals and a passionate fan base, which is why I made the conscious decision to come to Wolfsburg. I think it’s the right place for me to develop as a player and be part of a team that wants to achieve great things together. I can’t wait to get started at VfL and give my all for the club.”
