Wolves announce new board aimed at developing strategy for women's football

The board will be independent of the club and dedicated to the sustainability and growth of both the first-team and female football pathway from the age of eight upwards.

It will be chaired by long-time Wolves Women chair Jenny Wilkes, who will work closely with Jeff Shi and the club’s senior leadership team.

“The new board marks a pivotal moment for Wolves Women,” said Wilkes.

“We will work hand-in-hand with the club to bring expertise and insight across all areas, with a focus on growth, sustainability and ensuring there is a long-term infrastructure to sustain a girls’ talent pathway from the age of eight and a strategy for the club to progress in the women’s leagues.”

The formation of the board comes two months after Wolves found themselves at the centre of a storm, when it emerged they had not applied to compete in the Women’s Championship despite the team having spent the season fighting for promotion to the second level of the English game.

Joining Wilkes on the board is the club’s record appearance holder Anna Price, former defender Claire Hakeman and Sky Sports presenter and Wolves supporter Lynsey Hooper.

Caren Davies, a senior head of communications at the BBC and Wolves Foundation trustee, completes the quintet who have already met with Shi and the leadership team to learn more about the operations, ambitions and improvements ahead of the new season.

Shi said: “Establishing this advisory board is part of our continued focus on strengthening the club and its operations in a way that reflects our ambitions across all areas. We want success for Wolves Women, we want to win every game we compete in, and we are making good progress this summer.

“Now, this committed and talented group will bring additional energy and positivity to the project, and I am hopeful they can help us drive development and growth, complimenting our wider vision for the team.”
