Summer Series preview: United v Everton

HOW THE SUMMER SERIES WORKS

United’s meeting with Everton will be the third and final outing of our maiden appearance at the Premier League’s Summer Series, a four-team round-robin tournament.

It comprises of three matchdays in total, each in a different US city and featuring two games one after another in the same stadium, with United facing West Ham in New Jersey and Bournemouth on the Chicago leg before this year’s competition arrives in Atlanta.

Like in the regular Premier League season, it’s three points for a win and one for a draw, with no extra-time following contests that finish level after 90 minutes. The team with the most points after the Atlanta round will win the trophy, but if two clubs are tied they’ll be separated on goal difference, then goals scored and finally, if needed, the score of their head-to-head fixture.

While there is the incentive to win the prize, these matches will also serve as important preparation for our Premier League season – and a competition we hope to make a marked improvement on last season in – against three teams we’ll face in the top flight next term.
