Newcastle United are looking to accelerate their summer transfer plans.

Newcastle United have launched a triple transfer swoop.

Eddie Howe’s side are yet to make a major breakthrough in this summer’s transfer window but hope to make progress in the coming weeks. The three players above are all long-term targets.

Newcastle United launch £125m triple swoop

Pedro was set to move to St James’ Park from Watford in 2022 but the deal was pulled when Newcastle decided to pursue a £63million club-record transfer for Alexander Isak. A year later, the Brazilian joined Brighton, where he has scored 30 goals in 70 appearances.

The Seagulls are open to selling the 23-year-old after he was left out of the matchday for the remaining two matches of last season following a reported training ground bust-up with teammate Jan Paul van Hecke.

Forest are less keen to part ways with Elanga, who was subject to two approaches from Newcastle last summer.

The Magpies asked for the Swede as part of the PSR swindle that saw Elliot Anderson move to the City Ground but ended up having to take Greek goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos instead. United then tried their luck on deadline day but were met with a firm no.

And similar to Pedro, Trafford has already come very close to becoming a Newcastle player. The 22-year-old was set to sign last summer but the Magpies walked away from talks following Vlachodimos’ arrival.

According to The Telegraph, the triple move equates to £125million, with Pedro and Elanga valued at £50m each while the offer for Trafford is around £25m with add-ons.

Three players keen to sign - if a fee can be agreed

It’s claimed personal terms won’t be an issue with the trio, meaning United’s triple swoop boils down to agreeing a transfer fee, which is by far the hardest obstacle.

While £125m is mentioned, Newcastle are unlikely to secure the three players for that price. There are suggestions Brighton and Forest value Pedro and Elanga around £60m, while Trafford’s price tag is closer to £40m after his excellent campaign in the Championship.

The Telegraph adds that Newcastle are working to a soft deadline and hope to make a breakthrough on at least one of the transfers before the end of next week. If little progress is made, other options are expected to be explored.

Howe has previously got on record to say Newcastle won’t be dragged into paying “silly fees”.

“We have done [walked away from deals] many times in my time here,” Howe said last summer.

“Especially early on where there was very much a ‘Newcastle tax’ on any deal where when we would ring up, the price would double, so many times we were, ‘No, that’s not for us, we’re not going to go down that road where we feel we’re overpaying for players’.

“That’s changed slightly because people have seen the dynamic, that we’re not going to pay silly fees for players, so I think now it’s returned more to normality.”
