The Ibrahima Konate contract situation has taken another turn – and it’s not a positive one.

The French defender’s current terms expire in June 2026, and with no agreement on a new deal there is cause for concern.

Konate is understood to have turned down Liverpool’s initial extension offer, reportedly dissatisfied with a proposal heavily weighted towards performance-related incentives rather than a substantial guaranteed salary.

The defender currently earns around £80,000 per week.

It has been reported that he is seeking closer to £200,000 per week in basic wages while Liverpool remains reluctant to overcommit on fixed terms.

Now Santi Aouna, reporting for Foot Mercato, has claimed that the 26-year-old is ready to end his Anfield chapter:

“Ibrahima Konaté is ready to leave Liverpool,” reports Aouna.

“Konaté has still not extended his contract with Liverpool, even though his contract ends in 2026.”

“At the Reds, concern is growing. Rightly so, since the French defender wants a new challenge, and several clubs have already been warned.”

It is further asserted that Konate wants a “fresh challenge”, with several top European sides already alerted to his impending availability.

This includes the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Paris Saint-Germain, all of whom are said to be monitoring the situation.

For the 26-year-old’s part, he has a preference for Real Madrid according to the report.

It’s not exactly what Liverpool fans want to hear especially after the Trent Alexander-Arnold situation.

Konate has grown into a defensive linchpin alongside Virgil van Dijk, making a career-high 42 appearances in 2024/25 and proving his fitness reliability – which he has sometimes been critcised for.

The report also suggests that the defender, who was born in Paris, could have a soft spot for a homecoming and join the reigning European champions in PSG as well.

If this is indeed the case, the club will surely have to bite the bullet and sell Konate for as much as they can get this summer.

It could also potentially explain why Liverpool are advancing a deal for Marc Guehi as we exclusively reported on Thursday.
