So far this offseason, the Indiana Pacers have completed two trades, although both of them went under the radar.
With Desmond Bane and Kevin Durant on the move, the Pacers completed a deal with the New Orleans Pelicans, sending the 23rd overall pick down south for their own pick back in the 2026 draft. After Tyrese Haliburton's devastating Achilles injury, that trade ended up looking like a genius move.
Before Wednesday's first round, the Pacers completed a deal with the San Antonio Spurs, getting the 38th overall pick in this year's draft in exchange for a second-round pick next year.
The Pacers, barring another trade, will pick 38th and 54th in Thursday's second round. This marks the second year in a row they traded second-round picks with the Spurs. Last season, the two teams swapped Juan Nunez and Johnny Furphy, with the Pacers emerging as clear winners of that trade, with Nunez yet to come to America, remaining in the Spanish League.
In addition to Furphy, the Pacers have found quality players like Andrew Nembhard, Georges Niang, Lance Stephenson, and James Jones in the second round.
Assuming the Pacers re-sign Myles Turner this summer, they will have only three open roster spots next season, although James Johnson, Isaiah Jackson, and Thomas Bryant could all be brought back, likely forcing both of their second-round picks to two-way contracts.
Indiana is hoping to find a diamond in the rough, although their track record suggests that at best, they will end up with a role player.
