Brian Windhorst Says Some Executives Were Poking Fun At Nets’ Draft

On Wednesday morning, the Brooklyn Nets had an astonishing five first-round draft picks.

By Wednesday evening, they had five incoming rookies.

Many people were surprised that the Nets didn’t turn any of those picks into talent currently in the league.

They thought they would package them together and try to land a seasoned player, but instead, they are now bringing in five basketball prospects in 2025-26.

Speaking on NBA TV, via NBACentral, Brian Windhorst said that people around the league are calling him to make fun of the Nets.

“People are making fun of these draft picks. I mean, I’ve got people saying to me—executives and agents—they’re like, ‘Man, I was watching [the Nets] play three two-way guys during this year so that they could clap for taking guys in the 20s.’ He was like, ‘These two-way guys might be just as good as the guys that they’re taking,'” Windhorst said.

The Nets went with Egor Demin, Nolan Traore, Drake Powell, Ben Saraf, and Danny Wolf, giving them a mix of players, but mostly guards.

A lot of analysts and fans envisioned the Nets bundling up their multiple picks and converting them into players who have already been established in the NBA.

With this choice, many people believe that next year will also be a tough one for the Nets.

Perhaps a few of these rookies will start out well and do some impressive work.

Maybe this is all the Nets need to get back on track and start winning again.

But in all likelihood, these five will need to find their footing and adjust to the NBA, and that will take time.

What happens to the Nets during that period?

Executives and agents might be making fun of the Nets now, but Brooklyn hopes there is a day in the near future when they are the ones having the last laugh.
