GOAL explain that Johan has been on Manchester United’s radar for some time and so his name has resurfaced this summer, which is expected to be busy.

John’s name is on the rise, as his price tag, particularly after a performed on the big stage at the Club World Cup in a 1-0 win over Paris Saint-Germain. His clean sheet in that game did not go unnoticed.

One of the main factors driving Manchester United’s interested in a clause in John’s contract, which allows him to leave for $8m. This clause was included in his contract after he decided to stay at Botafogo to play in the Club World Cup, despite receiving lucrative offers in Europe in January.

Now Manchester United are seemingly ready to seize the opportunity, but GOAL have contacted John’s staff and been told that they’ve not had any contact with them so far.

To date, his agent, Pedro Gutierrez, has only confirmed that several European clubs have shown interest. He revealed that earlier this year, namechecking Tottenham at the time.

Now John is being touted as a top priority for Manchester United, but his agent insists that’s yet to actually become a reality.
