Nottingham Forest are going to be on the lookout for a number of new players this summer.

The Reds will enter the UEFA Conference League with last season’s seventh-place finish, earning a return to Europe for the first time in 30 years.

A lot has happened in that time at the City Ground – not all of it good – with Nuno Espirito Santo now the man tasked with taking the club to the next level.

Igor Jesus is joining Forest after the Club World Cup, and he could be joined by a number of new recruits during this window.

Players will leave too, with Ramon Sosa heading to sign for Palmeiras after a deal was struck between the two clubs.

Forest will target quality over quantity again, and it would appear that things are starting to heat up behind the scenes.

Elliot Anderson shone for England under-21s last night as they defeated the Netherlands to reach the final of the European Championships.

Anderson finished the game as captain, but it was Harvey Elliott who stole the show with two goals to edge England through the final.

After the game, Jason Cundy and Jamie O’Hara discussed the Liverpool player’s future, going down the Premier League table and looking at clubs who might take him.

When it came to Forest, both pundits were in no doubt as to whether he’d fit in at Forest.

The conversation went as follows:

O’Hara: “What about Forest, would they take him? I think they would.”

Cundy: “They play with pace Forest, they’ve got Elanga, they’ve got Callum Hudson-Odoi, he’s not that player, there’s a little bit more building through the lines with him, I’m not sure with Forest.”

The talk revolving Forest and possibly signing Elliott is pretty redundant given that the club are unlikely to part with £40 million for a player who might not fit naturally into Espirito Santo’s system.

There is a lot to like about Elliott, and he’s showcasing with the England under-21s right now what he’s all about.

However, Forest have to be savvy, and it’s hard to grasp where Elliott fits into the Forest team even if he can play in a number of different positions.

It’s nice to think that Forest will be able to spend such a sum on players this summer, but for £40 million, the club would likely want a player who is perfect for their system and further down the line in terms of his development.
