The sensational return of Cristiano Ronaldo to Manchester United in 2021/22 sparked a wave of excitement across the football world.

Despite appearing close to joining noisy neighbours Manchester City, the Portuguese returned back to the red side of Manchester.

Reuniting with the club where he became a global icon, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner was expected to spearhead a new era under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

But despite a promising start, Ronaldo struggled to truly settle back into life at Old Trafford.

Instability across three managerial reigns – first Ole, then Ralf Rangnick, and finally Erik ten Hag – ultimately made the reunion short-lived and turbulent.

A bitter end to his second stint at Old Trafford led Ronaldo to seek a fresh challenge.

One far away from the scrutiny of European football.

Many questioned his next move, but the football icon shocked the world by joining Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr in a deal that redefined the boundaries of football finance.

And now, over two years into his Middle East adventure, The Sun reports that Cristiano Ronaldo has signed the most lucrative contract in sporting history.

A staggering £492million deal over two years.

The 40-year-old has received a huge pay rise to remain at Al-Nassr until the age of 42, with a basic salary of £488,000 per day.

He’ll also collect a £24.5m signing bonus.

A number which will rise to £38m if he triggers the second year of his contract.

Ronaldo is set to pocket further windfalls as per The Sun’s report, including £4m for winning the golden boot, £8m if Al-Nassr clinch the league title.

As well as a 15% stake in the club worth £33m.

Add in a £4m private jet allowance, sponsorship deals potentially worth £60m, and an elite 16-person staff team paid for by the club, and Ronaldo could earn over £500m before the deal ends.
