Several former Manchester United players have gone on to rebuild and even elevate their careers away from Old Trafford in recent times.

Scott McTominay is a prime example, thriving in Serie A with Napoli and quickly becoming a fan favourite in Italy.

Marcus Rashford also enjoyed a relatively successful loan stint at Aston Villa.

The Englishman found his spark again, helping the Villans in their European push.

Even Antony, out of favour and form at United, found his joy again during a productive loan spell at Real Betis.

The Brazilian quickly got back to showing flashes of the promise United once paid big for.

But not every player finds the same resurgence.

Now another former United man is set for a fresh start.

David Ornstein of The Athletic reports that Axel Tuanzebe is undergoing a medical at Burnley.

Tuanzebe is currently a free agent after leaving Ipswich Town, where he spent the last two seasons and made 44 appearances.

He was used mostly as a right-back by Kieran McKenna, though he remains naturally a central defender.

Ipswich had offered him a new deal.

However, the 27-year-old looks set to move on.

Trabzonspor were in the mix for his signature, however they have now missed out.

Last season was a disrupted one for Tuanzebe, who made just 23 appearances after battling hamstring and thigh issues.

As well as suffering a freak thumb injury from washing up, which required surgery.

Burnley would be his third club since leaving Manchester United, having joined Ipswich in 2023 following short spells at Villa, Napoli and Stoke.

If completed, Tuanzebe will become Burnley’s third summer signing ahead of their Premier League return.

Tuanzebe first joined Manchester United’s academy at just eight years old and made his senior debut in 2017.

His career since then has been stop-start, but the Clarets are betting on his pedigree and versatility as they reshape their squad.
