The latest report from Spain suggests Luis Diaz’s Liverpool career is nearing an end.
Liverpool and the Colombian winger have been locked in contract talks for quite some time now, but it appears that there is no headway.
Last season was Diaz’s most productive season in a red shirt as Arne Slot used him in a variety of positions, including as a false nine.
From there, he thrived, scoring 13 times in the league, with only Mohamed Salah outscoring him among all Liverpool players last season.
However, despite being one of Slot’s most-trusted players, his future remains up in the air.
Barcelona have long been linked with a move for Diaz, and there is also genuine interest from Saudi Pro League clubs.
Liverpool want to keep the 28-year-old and had recently rejected an enquiry from Barcelona over his signature.
However, it appears as though there is a breakdown in the relationship between Diaz and the club, and the player is said to be now seeking a move away from Anfield.
According to journalist Pipe Sierra, Diaz and his agents are upset with Liverpool. They believe that the Reds have gone back on their word regarding a potential transfer this summer, as well as a new contract, and Diaz is now likely to leave the club.
“Luis Díaz and his entourage are upset with Liverpool’s stance,” the journalist wrote.
“They feel the club has gone back on their word (once again with the player). Something similar happened before with his contract renewal, and now with the possibility of a transfer.”
Interestingly, Diaz recently revealed that he is in discussion with other clubs, although he admitted being happy at Liverpool.
Speaking in a Colombian press conference ahead of their clash against Peru, the Liverpool winger admitted that he was speaking to other clubs:
“I’m very happy at Liverpool, I’ve always said it. They’ve treated me well since the first day…. We’re talking with other clubs.”
“It’s the transfer window, it’s normal. We’re waiting to see what happens.”
“If Liverpool renews my contract, or if I have to stay the 2 years I have left, I’ll be happy. It’s up to them.”
