Newcastle are looking to sign the attacker amid a failed bid for Nottingham Forest’s Anthony Elanga.
Ruben Amorim’s summer transfer plans rest on him being able to make some sales to afford new talent. United have already added Matheus Cunha, and are looking to bring in Bryan Mbeumo for £60m.
However, the Red Devils are also keen to sign a striker, who can replace Rasmus Hojlund, who had a poor season up front for United last year. They’ve been linked to the likes of Viktor Gyokeres, Hugo Ekitike and Victor Osimhen, but to afford them, they will likely need to sell a couple of names.
One player that United want to offload is Marcus Rashford, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa. However, after his deal ended, Villa decided against paying his £40m option to buy, and so he is now seeking his next move.
Newcastle want to sign Marcus Rashford
It is no secret that Rashford wants to move to Barcelona this summer, as the La Liga giants do have an interest in signing him on loan from Man United. However, his wages could be an issue that would stop them from bringing him in due to their precarious financial position.
With that in mind, Barcelona now have competition from the Premier League to sign Rashford, as Caught Offside are reporting that Newcastle are making “serious moves” to sign the 27-year-old on loan this summer ahead of Barcelona.
Due to his buy option at Villa, Rashford will likely cost £40m if Newcastle wanted to sign him permanently; that would be Man United’s preference. However, it is understood that the Magpies only want him on loan for now. The England international made 10 Premier League appearances for Villa last year, scoring two goals and providing two assists.
Man United also looking to sell fellow English attacker
Rashford isn’t the only attacker that United are looking to sell this summer, as Jadon Sancho is also a priority. The former Borussia Dortmund winger returned from his loan deal at Chelsea after they couldn’t agree personal terms on a permanent contract.
The Bees are yet to respond to the bid from Man United, but their initial asking price for him was £60m, so it is understood that a deal between the two clubs is likely, especially considering the player wants to move.
