Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley found his faith in God last offseason. He said Wednesday that it only makes sense that the ensuing campaign was his best, culminating with a Super Bowl triumph.
“I just became a Christian not too long ago,” Barkley said in golf YouTuber Grant Horvat’s “Break 60” series. “I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the best year I had in my career, I found my faith. It gives me some clarity in life.”
Barkley’s first season with the Eagles saw him rush for more than 2,000 yards in the regular season en route to 2024’s Offensive Player of the Year award.
Last month, EA Sports announced that the 28-year-old would be the cover athlete for this year’s edition of the uber-popular “Madden” video game.
Just before the NFL title game in February, Barkley told reporters, “I’m not going to sit here and tell you that I know the Bible, like, in and out. It’s something I’m learning; I’m challenging myself to get better at with my family and my friends.”
The Penn State product’s faith-heavy offseason continued last month. Barkley, along with several other Eagles, was a featured speaker at “Life Surge: Champions of Faith,” a religious financial seminar at Philadelphia’s 21,000-seat Wells Fargo Center.
