Rounding up the latest Premier League transfer rumours - with news from Newcastle, Man Utd, Liverpool, Spurs and more.
The transfer window is open, the rumour mill is churning away, and we’re here with our latest round-up of the biggest new Premier League transfer rumours to help you make sense of it all - starting with a surprising story concerning Newcastle United, Manchester United and even Aston Villa.
According to Caught Offside, Newcastle are “making serious moves” towards the signing of want-away Manchester United and England forward Marcus Rashford, according to “well-connected sources.”
It had seemed as though the question would be whether Rashford got his dream move to Barcelona or had to settle with extending his stay at Villa Park, but he’s now emerged as “an alternative” to Anthony Elanga.
The Magpies reportedly had a £45m bid for the Nottingham Forest winger turned down this week, and that could force Newcastle to change tack. The problem is that Caught Offside’s sources reckon that they’d look for a loan deal, while Manchester United would prefer to sell him permanently for around £40m. A range of continental sides including Bayern Munich, AC Milan and Juventus could provide competition.
The 3AM Verdict: We doubt that United would let Rashford leave on loan when it’s so likely that they can get a fee for him, and while it would be a pretty exciting signing for Newcastle their priority remains a right winger – and they don’t have a huge budget this summer. We don’t doubt that they’d love to get him on loan but suspect that the Elanga situation is separate as that covers other needs. Advanced talks for Brighton’s João Pedro, who would surely play a similar role to Rashford, only make this move even less likely.
Liverpool target dramatic three-way swap deal
Over to TeamTalk now, who come with a fresh take on Liverpool’s search for a striker – apparently, they’re in talks with Napoli over a deal which would include Victor Osimhen in the deal taking Darwin Núñez to Serie A.
With difficulties emerging as the teams work to agree upon a valuation for the Uruguayan, Liverpool are “open to a swap deal” which would see them sign the Nigerian in exchange for Darwin and Federico Chiesa, and talks over this possibility “have taken place” already.
The road block is the fact that Napoli apparently want €20m (£17m) in cash as well, while the Reds feel that those two players for Osimhen would represent fair value on its own. Much of that disparity circles back to the gap in how Liverpool and Napoli value Darwin. Talks continue, it’s claimed, as all parties work towards finding a solution.
The 3AM Verdict: This is actually not all that implausible, although it would likely be three technically separate transactions rather than an actual old-fashioned player swap due to the way Premier League and UEFA financial rules work. It sounds, once again, as though pinning down a fair value for Darwin would be the key to the whole thing, and it looks like this is all moving rather more slowly than originally thought, with a deal of any kind far from guaranteed.
Spurs & Crystal Palace to battle for Serie A star
For our last rumour of our latest round-up, we’re sticking with Serie A, thanks to a story from Sport Witness (via Calciomercato) which claims that both Tottenham Hotspur and Crystal Palace are “at the centre of a growing transfer battle” for Genoa defender Koni de Winter.
The versatile Belgian defender was a standout for his side last season and Spurs, especially, are said to be “in the front row” for his signature having scouted him numerous time over the course of the past year. Alongside Spurs and Palace in the queue are Juventus and Inter Milan, according to prior rumours, and Genoa are reportedly keen to leverage all that interest to make sure they get top dollar – they value the 23-year-old De Winter at €30m (£25m).
The 3AM Verdict: No formal approaches yet by the sounds of it, and while De Winter is certainly on several shortlists there’s no indication that any of the teams mentioned see him as their first choice just yet. In short, this will probably be a slow burner and it’s nearly impossible to assess how likely a move to the Premier League is at this point.
