Prized Leeds United asset to leave for PL rivals amid competition from England youth gem

Leeds United are set to lose academy striker Oliver Boast to Tottenham for a seven-figure fee as the player choses to leave the Thorp Arch academy for North London.

Leeds’ academy has produced some sensational talent over the years, but the most notable of those only spent a year in the senior side before he was snatched from the Whites, that player being Archie Gray to Tottenham.

Spurs’ stature compared to Leeds makes them an attractive prospect for young talent, and the North London club are set to take another teenager from their new Premier League rivals.

Oliver Boast set to switch from Leeds United to Tottenham in seven-figure deal

The Athletic have reported on Thursday that Leeds are set to lose 16-year-old striker talent Oliver Boast to Tottenham.

A seven-figure fee has been agreed between the two clubs with Leeds opting not to take the matter to a tribunal to decide a compensation fee, instead negotiating terms directly with Spurs.

Boast is an England U16 international and managed a strike rate of a goal every other game for Leeds’ U18s during the 24/25 season.

While Leeds were obviously reluctant to lose a bright attacking talent, Boast is claimed to be seen behind Harry Gray in the pecking order, who has already made his senior debut at the same age, coming off the bench in the 6-0 win at home to Stoke City in April – the day Leeds secured promotion back to the top flight:

“Boast, who turned 16 last month, is only seven months younger than Harry Gray and has followed in his fellow striker’s footsteps through the academy,” Beren Cross writes. “Leeds can normally show their best young players a pathway to the first team, but Boast is behind one of England’s best young strikers in the pecking order.

“Gray made his senior debut last term and is expected to only increase his minutes in the coming campaign. Rather than compete with Gray over the coming years, Boast has opted to try his hand in the capital with Tottenham.”

Oliver Boast: A bright talent leaving Leeds United, but a PSR boost softens the blow slightly

It’s always grim to see a very talented youngster leave the club before they’ve even had chance to push for a senior debut.

Finlay Gorman headed to Man City and now Boast is going to Spurs, which is two players that were destined for debuts and probably regular Premier League football.

However, the only silver lining to this deal is that Leeds are getting a seven-figure sum for this agreement and that will go some way to helping the club’s PSR bottom line.
