A Manchester City masterclass unfolded in Orlando as Pep Guardiola’s side cruised to a dominant 5-2 victory over Juventus, securing their place in the Last 16 of the Club World Cup.
The Mancunian side topped Group G in the process, finishing as the only team with a perfect record of three wins and nine points. City formed a counter inside the first five minutes where Bernardo Silva's header from the centre of the box was comfortably cleared away by keeper Michele Di Gregorio.
Just before the ninth minute, the Citizens broke the deadlock thanks to a timed layoff from Rayan Ait Nouri to Jeremy Doku. The Belgian international cut back onto his inside and slotted a fast-paced ball home in the bottom right corner.
The lead proved to be short-lived as Juventus responded only two minutes later. Ederson made a major mistake as he squared the ball directly to Juventus midfielder Teun Koopmeiners, resulting in the Dutchman squaring home in a one-on-one situation with the Brazilian.
A quiet 15 minutes followed, but a key counter involving Mattheus Nunes squared a ball into the box, but no City player was at the receiving end. Instead, it went to Juventus defender Pierre Kalulu, who accidentally kicked it into his own net to add City's second goal on 26 minutes.
The rain arrived and sprinkled down for the rest of the first half, but no further goals were converted despite a few on-target opportunities from the away side.
Half-time substitute Erling Haaland nearly made an immediate impact for Manchester City, but he was unable to convert a whipped low cross from Savinho.
However, the Norwegian giant found the net in the 53rd minute, latching onto a cross from Nunes for what was arguably the easiest tap-in he’d score all tournament.
Juventus came close to reducing the goal deficit to one goal. Dušan Vlahović came close from a square through ball directly into his path, but Ederson did well to parry it out of play.
Anyhow, Phil Foden and İlkay Gündoğan entered the fold, which proved to be two vital substitution changes for coach Guardiola. Savinho squared the ball to Foden, who finished from close range with a composed shot.
The dominant performance continued as a fifth goal arrived from Savinho in the 75th minute. Positioned on the edge of the box, he had an effort on his weaker foot, reaching the top corner of the goal.
Juventus frontman Dušan Vlahović grabbed a late consolation in the 84th minute, but City’s commanding lead was never in doubt.
