Minnesota Timberwolves trying to trade top pick in second round of 2025 NBA Draft

The Minnesota Timberwolves had several options available heading into the 2025 NBA Draft with two selections. Timberwolves president Tim Connelly used Minnesota’s first-round selection to draft French big man Joan Beringer with the 17th overall pick.

Now, the Timberwolves are preparing for their second selection, which is the first pick in the second round of tonight’s NBA Draft. Considering teams have been able to spend all night and day on re-evaluating their draft boards where several intriguing talents remain, pick No. 31 is viewed as a fairly valuable trade chip.

Thus, considering the Timberwolves already have a stacked core of young talent, it’s no surprise that ESPN’s NBA insider Shams Charania is reporting that Minnesota is currently working on “auctioning” the top pick of the second round to the highest bidder.

“The first pick of the second round is currently being auctioned off to the highest bidder.. There’s multiple offers coming in as we speak”

After trading four first-round picks plus an additional pick swap to the Utah Jazz for elite center Rudy Gobert back in 2022, the Timberwolves find themselves a bit light on draft compensation. As a result, they could be aiming to secure a future first-round pick from another team tonight.

Plus, the Timberwolves already have a young player in development at every position on the roster.

With the addition of Joan Beringer, Matt Lloyd pointed out the Wolves now have one young player at every position…

Do they really need another prospect who likely won’t spend any valuable minutes on the floor in his first season of the NBA?
