Bernardo Silva disagrees with Pep Guardiola on key Man City transfer plan

Bernardo Silva has suggested he disagrees with one of Pep Guardiola’s trasfer preferences at Manchester City.

Manchester City kept their Club World Cup form rolling on Thursday by destroying Juventus 5-2 in Orlando and securing top spot in Group G.

An early goal from Jeremy Doku got the ball rolling but Teun Koopmeiners equalised within two minutes after an Ederson mistake.

But City weren’t knocked off their stride and soon retook the lead after Matheus Nunes teed up an own-goal.

Second-half strikes from Erling Haaland, Phil Foden and Savinho rounded off the scoring before Dusan Vlahovic added a late consolation.

Haaland and Foden both came on off the bench, a display of strength in depth that pleased Bernardo Silva, with the new captain admitting he likes that City have a big squad. Unlike his manager Pep Guardiola.

Bernardo Silva likes having a big Man City squad

Guardiola caused a stir in May when he claimed he would quit City if his squad wasn’t made smaller this summer.

He said in a pre-match press conference: “I said to the club I don’t want that [a bigger squad],”

“I don’t want to leave five or six players in the freezer. I don’t want that. I will quit. Make a shorter squad, I will stay.”

However, speaking to DAZN after the Juventus victory, Bernardo actually explained that he loves that City have lots of options and wants a big squad next season.

“We have a big squad,” he said. “Especially for this tournament and hopefully the season, and the impact these players have had, not just this game but in other games, has been massive.

“Once again today the guys that came from the bench helped a lot, and you need everyone to be successful.”

Who Man City could sell before transfer deadline day

Kevin De Bruyne has departed after his contract expired but City have made their squad bigger this summer with the signings of Tijjani Reijnders, Rayan Cherki, Rayan Ait-Nouri and Marcus Bentinelli.

Yet, plenty more movement is expected before transfer deadline day on September 1.

Jack Grealish and James McAtee haven’t travelled to the USA ahead of potential sales, with their futures at the Etihad Stadium looking in peril.

Kyle Walker is heading for the door and Kalvin Phillips will likely leave again, though his injury and contract might mean he only goes out on loan.

There have also been reports linking the likes of Manuel Akanji and Nunes with exits.

Ederson has confirmed he is staying at City, however, after some speculation at the start of the summer.
