Barcelona keen, but Liverpool star ‘favours’ Real Madrid free agent switch

A member of the defensive ranks at Premier League champions Liverpool is keen on a move to Spain with Real Madrid next summer.

That’s according to transfer insider Santi Aouna, who points towards Ibrahima Konaté as the player in question.

Stopper Konaté, for his part, is due to see his contract terms with Liverpool expire in 12 months’ time.

The Anfield brass have long been hard at work in an effort to tie the Frenchman down to a new deal, but to date, no agreement has been reached.

And for good reason, it would appear…

As per the aforementioned Santi Aouna of Foot Mercato, Konaté ‘wants a change of scenery’ in 2026.

The 26-year-old is therefore ready to follow the lead of ex-teammate Trent Alexander-Arnold, running down his Liverpool contract, before departing Merseyside as a free agent.

Not only that, but Konaté could even reunite with Alexander-Arnold in Spain.

It is added that at the front of the queue to snap the former RB Leipzig standout up are the trio of Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona, and Real Madrid.

Konaté himself, though, ‘has a preference for Real Madrid’.
