Malik Beasley's Free Agent Situation Gets Update From NBA Insider

The Detroit Pistons battled the New York Knicks tooth-and-nail in the first round of the NBA Playoffs only to fall short as Jalen Brunson and company beat Detroit on the road in Game 6, clinching the series.

The young Pistons' playoff performance was made more impressive by the absence of center Isaiah Stewart, a key part of Detroit's team who played just one game (19 minutes) against Detroit's Eastern Conference rivals.

Shooting guard Malik Beasley finished third on the Pistons in playoff scoring behind Tobias Harris and Cade Cunningham while delivering incredible moments including high-degree-of-difficulty three point shots as he helped Detroit stay close to New York.

On Thursday, his contract aspirations got an update from Forbes NBA contributor Evan Sidery.

"There is significant mutual interest between the Pistons and Mailk Beasley on a new contract entering unrestricted free agency," Sidery wrote.

"Beasley averaged 16.3 points while shooting 41.6% from on threes this season with Detroit."

Beasley signed a one-year, $6 million deal last July with coach JB Bickerstaff's team.

He is known as a 3-point ace but struggled shooting percentage wise against the Knicks, albeit at a high volume of shots, in the playoffs. Beasley made 3.3 out of 9.8 three-pointers during six games played against New York as he attempted to make up for the scoring void left by Stewart's absence.

Beasley averaged 16.3 points per game during the regular season, third on the team counting Jaden Ivey who played in 30 games before injuring his left fibula on January 1 and undergoing season-ending surgery.
