Celtics Reportedly Trade Back In Second Round Of 2025 NBA Draft

The Boston Celtics traded the 32nd overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft to the Orlando Magic, NBA insider Shams Charania reported on the ESPN broadcast.

Orlando used the selection on France forward Noah Penda, who wore a Celtics hat as he shook the hand of NBA commissioner Adam Silver.

The Celtics acquired Nos. 46 and 57 in this year’s draft as well as second-rounders in 2026 and 2027, per Charania.

Stanford big man Maxime Raynaud was considered Jay Bilas’ best player available before the Celtics traded the pick. Boston was linked to the Stanford product during the pre-draft process, but ultimately Brad Stevens and company felt three additional second-round picks was worth it.

The Phoenix Suns jumped the Celtics and acquired the 31st overall pick from the Minnesota Timberwolves. Phoenix selected Saint Joseph wing Rasheer Fleming with the first pick of the second round. It’s unknown whether the Celtics would have traded back if Fleming was still available.
