Hornets select Ryan Kalkbrenner with the 34th pick of the 2025 NBA Draft

The Charlotte Hornets have selected Ryan Kalkbrenner, big out of Creighton with the 34th pick of the 2025 NBA Draft.

We did a whole scouting report of Kalkbrenner a couple of weeks ago because he seemed like such a perfect second round target for the Hornets. The community likes him as well, as he was the top vote getter for the team’s first selection of the second round in our community mock draft.

The cliff notes version of all that: Kalkbrenner was a four time defensive player of the year in the Big East, which is a pretty good basketball conference. He has a huge wingspan and can get off the ground quickly to block a lot of shots, though he doesn’t rebound as well as he probably should. Offensively, he tries to dunk everything but has really soft touch when he does finish from below the rim. He’s shown a burgeoning 3-point shot as well. With the Hornets shipping off Mark Williams and Kalkbrenner’s seamless fit, he has a very real chance at big minutes right away.
