After spending two seasons in Tallahassee, G Jamir Watkins was drafted by the Washington Wizards with the 43rd pick in the 2025 NBA Draft. Watkins is the first Seminole drafted since Scottie Barnes went in the first round to the Toronto Raptors in the 2021 NBA Draft.
Watkins led the Seminoles in points per game (18.4) and minutes per game (30.9) in 2025 while earning All-ACC Second Team honors. The New Jersey native began his college basketball career at VCU before transferring to Tallahassee for the 23-24 season, where he averaged 15.6 points per game on 34.4% three-point shooting. Watkins was the focal point of Leonard Hamilton’s offense in his two seasons at FSU and started every game in his two-year stint.
Although an older prospect at 23 years old, Watkins’ size at 6’5’’ with a 6’11’’ wingspan made him an appealing second-round option. He will not be able to play with the ball in his hand as much as he did at FSU, but his ability to score at all three levels and defensive tenacity should allow him to stick in the NBA.
