The Celtics were set to make the No. 32 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, but instead, they traded back for a haul of second-round picks, a league source confirmed to MassLive’s Brian Robb. So there was some early movement from Boston on Thursday to open the second round.
The C’s traded the 32nd pick to the Orlando Magic for the Nos. 46 and 57 pick, along with two other second-round picks in 2026 and 2027, [which was first reported by ESPN’s Shams Charania](https://x.com/ShamsCharania/status/1938392826598801774). The 2026 pick is the most favorable between the Pistons, Bucks and Magic, per sources, and the 2027 pick will be the most favorable between the Celtics and Magic.
At 32nd overall, the Magic selected Noah Penda from France. While the ESPN broadcast showed Penda wearing a Celtics hat on the podium, he will instead head to Orlando, which has been aggressive this offseason. They also used four first-round picks along with Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Cole Anthony to land Desmond Bane in a trade earlier this month.
Thursday’s deal marks the first trade the C’s made during the 2025 NBA Draft. They netted three more second-round picks in the trade. Boston president Brad Stevens has restocked the organization with future second-round picks, which can be used for trades down the line. Boston now has 10 future second-round picks available through 2032 including three in 2026 and three in 2030.
The Celtics already made their own big moves this offseason, trading away Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holiday. Boston picked up an additional two second round picks in the Holiday deal in addition to Anfernee Simons. [They also selected Hugo Gonzalez at 28th overall](https://www.masslive.com/celtics/2025/06/everything-brad-stevens-said-of-hugo-gonzalez-newest-boston-celtics-wing.html) in the first round Wednesday, landing a 19-year-old wing who has played for Real Madrid the last three seasons. For now, the Celtics have two more second-round selections coming up later in the draft at 46th and 57th, though they could continue dealing those picks.
