Former Florida guard Alijah Martin is heading north of the border to continue his basketball journey.
The 6-foot-2 guard who helped Florida capture a national championship to close his collegiate career was taken by the Toronto Raptors with the 39th overall pick of the NBA Draft on Thursday night in Brooklyn. Martin was a huge part of the Gators’ success last season, averaging 14.4 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game in his only season in Gainesville.
The Summit, Miss., native began his collegiate career at Florida Atlantic, where he spent 4 seasons between 2020-24. Martin was a big part of making history at FAU, helping the Owls to their first Final Four appearance in 2023. FAU fell short of the ultimate prize that season, but Martin ultimately got his hands on the national championship trophy a few years later after transferring to Florida for his final season of college basketball.
Martin emerged at Florida and became the Gators’ starting shooting guard, and just a few months after fulfilling a dream in college basketball, he’s now realized his NBA dreams.
The Raptors celebrated the second-round selection of Martin on Thursday night with this post:
Martin, who has spent his entire basketball life in the South, will not only be headed north but way north as he starts his NBA journey in Toronto.
