The Sacramento Kings came into the 2025 NBA Draft with one second-round selection.
Spending a future protected first-rounder allowed them to move into Wednesday’s first round, where new general manager Scott Perry selected Colorado State guard/wing Nique Clifford.
Not included in the deal, Sacramento used the 42nd pick to select Stanford big man Maxime Raynaud.

The seven-foot French big spent four seasons at Stanford, showing tremendous growth with each passing season — a similarity he shares with Clifford.
Raynaud averaged 20.2 points, 10.6 rebounds, and 1.7 assists in his 33.5 minutes over 35 games played last season. He was the only NCAA Division-1 player to tally 20 points and 10 rebounds per game last season.
Utilizing his 7’1 wingspan, the 22-year-old had 50 blocks in 25 games. But he wasn’t a typical, low-usage second-round big man.
Raynaud led Stanford in field goal attempts (16.1) while converting 46.7 percent. But potentially his most impressive skill set was his ability to shoot 34.7 percent on 5.5 three-point attempts per game.

This could potentially unlock some offensive positional versatility, especially as more NBA teams are using two-big lineups.
It’s unclear how it may translate to the next level, but Raynaud has shown some ability to put the ball on the floor, attacking closeouts with his versatility.
But most believe that the seven-footers’ success will be heavily tied to their ability to convert from distance.
That largely is due to his defensive question marks, as there are few positives aside from his size and straight-line mobility helping him make some plays.
The Sacramento Kings have selected Stanford’s Maxime Raynaud with the No. 42 pick.
Fits a coveted mold at 7’1 with impressive shooting ability, which gives him a quicker path to a NBA role than some players who will be drafted before him. pic.twitter.com/rpQffTgGfV

His combination of size, shooting, and potential to attack closeouts seems to be the sell.
Perry makes his second decision in the head chair, taking another older prospect who showed annual growth in Stanford’s Maxime Raynaud.

Working without a first-round pick coming into Wednesday’s 2025 NBA Draft, new Sacramento Kings general manager Scott Perry aggressively moved to get their guy.
According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, Sacramento traded for the 24th overall pick, where they selected Colorado State guard/wing Nique Clifford.
Sacramento traded the San Antonio 2027 first-round pick with protections, top-16 protected. If it doesn’t covey, it would become two 2027 second-rounder (Sacramento’s own and Charlotte’s).
