Cooper Flagg’s Dallas Maverick debut comes against the Summer League Los Angeles Lakers

According to ESPN, Cooper Flagg will make his Dallas Mavericks Las Vegas Summer League debut against the Los Angeles Lakers.

Summer League starts in two weeks, on July 10th, and the game will be part of an ESPN-broadcast doubleheader. The game will start at 7pm local time here in Dallas.

With the NBA Draft wrapping up tonight, expect signings of undrafted free agents to various NBA Summer League teams, including the Mavericks. The current roster is unlikely to have anyone who will play on the team except for Flagg, though Jaden Hardy should really consider it for reps. Basketball is basketball and playing with a new teammate in a low-pressure (but high-visibility) environment seems like a fun idea.

A few days after the Mavericks won the lottery, I made a pitch here for you to go to Summer League. There’s still plenty of time!

Expect the Mavericks to play again on Saturday night and for Flagg to play in both this Thursday contest and that Saturday contest; beyond that I hope he’ll play, but it seems unlikely.

It’s a little annoying that the Mavericks are once again roped in with something Lakers-related, but Flagg is a draw and Bronny James gets a ton of attention for reasons that escape me. Summer League games are often ugly, but it should be a showcase performance for Flagg. Two weeks can’t move fast enough.
