Adou Thiero’s path to the NBA officially came full circle Thursday night when the [Los Angeles Lakers](https://www.silverscreenandroll.com) selected him No. 36 overall in the 2025 [NBA Draft](https://www.sbnation.com/nba-draft). While his breakout year came at Arkansas under John Calipari, it was his two-year foundation at Kentucky that laid the groundwork for his professional leap.
Thiero arrived in Lexington as an overlooked prospect from Pennsylvania, part of Kentucky’s 2022 signing class. Though his role was limited early, he quickly earned minutes by doing the little things — defending, rebounding, and bringing consistent energy. As a sophomore, he started 19 games for the Wildcats, averaging 7.2 points and 5.0 rebounds per contest, while finishing second on the team in blocked shots.
His versatility on defense and hustle plays made him a valuable asset on a Kentucky team that, at times, struggled with consistency. Whether it was stuffing the stat sheet against Gonzaga or posting a double-double against No. 1 Kansas, Thiero routinely stepped up in big moments for Big Blue Nation. He was even named to College Sports Today’s “Glue Guy” roster.
After Calipari left for Arkansas, Thiero followed his coach to Fayetteville, where he took his game to another level — but Kentucky remained a critical chapter in his development. The competitive practices, SEC experience, and spotlight in Rupp Arena helped mold him into the player he is today.
From a role player at Kentucky to a star at Arkansas and now a pro with the Lakers, Thiero’s story is one Big Blue fans can proudly celebrate.
