NEWPORT, Maine (WABI) - The Grove in Newport hosted an NBA Draft watch party Wednesday night to celebrate local superstar Cooper Flagg.
Supporters of Flagg were there bringing up the energy, and ESPN’s Marty Smith was there to cover the big event.
It made national television, and the owner of The Grove, Kendra Hartsgrove, was even featured by ESPN.
We caught up with Kendra Hartsgrove to get her reaction and debrief the exciting night.
“I was shaking, but it was exciting... The ESPN crew, it was amazing. They were so fun. They felt at home here is what they said and that’s really what we wanted. I think that no matter where you were, no matter if you were at home, if you were at other locations or whatever, it really doesn’t matter where you were. It just matters who you gathered for. In my eyes, you know, so it’s all about Cooper and all of the support. He’s very humble and kind and very much loves his hometown peeps.. That’s why we offered it here,” said Hartsgrove.
The Grove crew spent the morning cleaning up after the watch party.
They were in the process of counting the money that the event raised for the Ronald McDonald House of Maine.
Just from the Raffle Prizes that Flagg donated himself, they were able to raise $2,000 alone.
The money is still being counted from vendors and other donations.
A check will be presented to Ronald Mcdonald’s when the final total is determined.
