Liverpool dream transfer window as Alexander Isak signs and Ibrahima Konate makes contract U-turn

The summer transfer window couldn't be going much better for Liverpool right now, although there is scope for things to get even better for the Reds.

Fans are used to waiting with some frustration for their club to make some movement in the market, but no time has been wasted this time around, with three major signings already in the bag. Milos Kerkez was the latest to be confirmed on Thursday, joining Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz in the process.

Add to that Giorgi Mamardashvili's arrival from Valencia next month, and you already have an outstanding window by anyone's standards - and there's still more than two months to go before it closes on September 1.

That leaves plenty of time for Arne Slot and Richard Hughes to put even more work in on their title-winning side, with the remainder of the summer window offering up what could be a dream scenario for Liverpool...

Alexander Isak signs

Yes, we know Alexander Isak is going to cost a lot of money. In fact, Liverpool would almost certainly have to break its own transfer record for the second time this summer, and smash the Premier League record in the process.

But is there any other striker in the world right now who you would rather see leading the line for the Reds? Only Mohamed Salah got more goals than Isak in the Premier League last season - just imagine if those two were on the same team for next season's title defense.

That really would be the stuff of dreams. And though it might seem a long shot, Newcastle has perhaps dropped its biggest hint yet that it might not be so ridiculous.

The Magpies look to have launched a $172 million spending spree on three players, including Brighton forward Joao Pedro, which might point to them expecting Isak to be on the move soon. It might be wishful thinking on our part, but signing Isak would be an unbelievable coup for Liverpool.

Ibrahima Konate U-turn

All of the noise surrounding Ibrahima Konate at the moment is not too promising. Talks over a new contract don't seem to be going too well, and now there are suggestions he's already decided he wants to leave at the end of his current deal.

That's just 12 months away, and once again Real Madrid may have sunk its claws into another player, with Foot Mercato claiming a move to the Bernabeu would be Konate's preference.

Losing the Frenchman would be a major blow, considering he has firmly established himself as Virgil van Dijk's first-choice center-back partner, and if he has already decided he wants to leave, then Liverpool should be considering trying to get a fee for him while it still can.

There is still time though, and that report coming from just one outlet doesn't mean his future is decided by any means. Hopefully, if he is leaning toward leaving Anfield, Konate can still be convinced into making a U-turn, and the sooner the better - ideally, before the end of the summer.

Marc Guehi joins

Regardless of what happens to Konate, Liverpool needs to be looking for a new center-back. With Jarell Quansah heading to Bayer Leverkusen, the Reds cannot go into next season with just three senior options.

Already though, one name seems to stand out from the rest. There does seem to be interest in Marc Guehi, and a lot of fans are already convinced on the Crystal Palace star.

Guehi will surely be on the move soon, given he has just a year left on his contract at Selhurst Park. It's just a question of where he goes, and hopefully it's Liverpool.

There are plenty of positives for the Reds in signing him. He's still only 24, he's already an established international defender, he would help with the homegrown quota. Most importantly though, he's a fine defender who would fit in well with a team looking to add more and more trophies to its collection.

It's not just incomings that would make for a successful window for Liverpool. Ideally, the Reds will also be able to offload a few players, and get a decent return in the process.

There are some obvious candidates to make way. We've already mentioned Quansah's impending departure, with the potential of $46 million just too good to turn down, while Darwin Nunez will surely leave after three years, with Napoli seemingly the frontrunner for his signature at the moment.

There are at least two more that Liverpool should be looking to move on. Obviously, with Kerkez arriving, it makes the most sense for one of Andy Robertson or Kostas Tsimikas to make way, and given Atletico Madrid may have turned its attentions away from the former, finding a buyer for Tsimikas may be the best course of action now.

And, given Slot doesn't seem to be all that convinced on Federico Chiesa, it may be best for Liverpool to cut its losses and let the Italian find a new home, and hopefully somewhere for him to revive his career.
