Wake Forest’s Hunter Sallis agrees to two-way NBA contract with 76ers

Hunter Sallis is headed to the NBA.

The former Wake Forest standout agreed to a two-way contract with the Philadelphia 76ers, ESPN reported late Thursday, shortly after the conclusion of the second round of the 2025 NBA Draft.

The 6-foot-5 guard from Omaha, Nebraska, transferred to Wake Forest in 2023 after two seasons at Gonzaga. He arrived in Winston-Salem ready for a larger role — and delivered.

Sallis averaged 18 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game in his first season at Wake, shooting 48.7% from the field and 40.5% from 3-point range. He followed that with another strong campaign in 2024-25, posting 18.3 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game while anchoring both ends of the floor.

From five-star prospect to ACC star

Sallis first rose to national prominence at Millard North High School and became a McDonald’s All-American.

The No. 6 overall recruit in the 2021 class, according to 247Sports, Sallis turned heads in high school ball. He committed to Gonzaga on his 18th birthday, choosing the Zags over North Carolina and hometown Creighton.

One of the most highly-anticipated recruits in Gonzaga history, Sallis never cracked the starting lineup but gained valuable experience on strong teams. The Bulldogs went 63-10 over his two seasons, won back-to-back WCC titles and reached the Sweet 16 twice. He averaged 4.4 points and 2.1 rebounds in limited minutes over 69 games in one of college basketball’s elite systems.

Now, to the pros

Though Sallis wasn’t selected in either round of the 2025 NBA Draft, he quickly landed a deal.

He joins the 76ers on a two-way contract, the developmental path that allows players to split time between the NBA and the G League while earning NBA service time.

Sallis enters the professional ranks as a skilled guard with a smooth mid-range game, defensive versatility, room to grow as a shooter and playmaker and potential to develop in an NBA organization.
