'The answer was': Fabrizio Romano shares the three words Myles Lewis-Skelly told Real Madrid when they called him

Myles Lewis-Skelly has extended his contract at Arsenal despite interest from Real Madrid.

The Hale End graduate burst onto the scene under Mikel Arteta last season, and he was a revelation in the famous red and white.

Lewis-Skelly established himself as Arsenal’s first-choice left-back despite the presence of more senior options like Oleksandr Zinchenko, Riccardo Calafiori and Kieran Tierney. The teenager even made his England debut and has impressed under Thomas Tuchel.

Arsenal had been working on Lewis-Skelly’s contract for a while, and his extension was finally announced on Thursday.

What happened when Real Madrid called to sign Myles Lewis-Skelly from Arsenal

Arsenal took a risk allowing Myles Lewis-Skelly’s contract talks to drag on.

The Englishman’s old deal was going to expire in the summer of 2026, which means he was just days away from entering the final 12 months of his contract.

Real Madrid love courting talented players whose deals expire in a year or two, and they had a look at the Arsenal teen.

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed Real Madrid’s interest in Lewis-Skelly, and he claimed that the Galacticos did call to see if they could convince him to join them.

However, the 18-year-old’s heart was set on staying at the Emirates, and he made that clear with a three-word reply to the Spanish giants when they called.

Romano said in a video on his YouTube channel: “Myles Lewis-Skelly extended, five-year contract, one of the best-paid under-20 players in the world now. But, he was never really close to signing for Real Madrid.

“Real Madrid are always well informed on players when they are out of contract, so they made some calls to understand the situation, but the answer was always: ‘Arsenal, Arsenal, Arsenal!'”

Andrea Berta has another big job to do after extending Myles Lewis-Skelly’s contract

Andrea Berta has been working extremely hard since he joined Arsenal.

The Italian has extended Gabriel Magalhaes and Lewis-Skelly’s contracts, while he has also sealed deals to bring in Martin Zubimendi, Kepa Arrizabalaga and Christian Norgaard.

Berta is working on more signings as well, but the Arsenal sporting director has to extend Ethan Nwaneri’s contract as soon as possible.

TBR Football exclusively revealed that Arsenal are finding it harder to convince Nwaneri to pen a new deal, but they are still trying.

Extending Lewis-Skelly’s deal is a big boost, but if Berta can secure Nwaneri’s future as well, it would be fantastic for Arsenal.
