Chelsea are understood to be one of the clubs on alert for the potential transfer of Liverpool attacking midfielder Harvey Elliott this summer.

The 22-year-old hasn’t managed to establish himself as a regular starter for Liverpool, and sources with connections to the agents industry have informed CaughtOffside that he could be open to leaving Anfield.

Liverpool would also be prepared to let Elliott go if the right offer came in, with the Reds expected to ask for as much as £50m for the England Under-21 international.

Multiple sources have confirmed to CaughtOffside that Chelsea are one of the teams keeping an eye on the situation, though Brighton have shown the strongest interest so far.

As well as Chelsea and Brighton, there has also been some interest from Aston Villa, Newcastle United, and Borussia Dortmund.

One well-placed source confirmed, however, that Brighton were the most likely to make a move soon.

“The most concrete interest has come from Brighton,” our source said. “They have identified Elliott as their number-one target for the summer transfer window and are preparing a formal offer of £40 million.”

The source also suggested there is confidence at Brighton’s end as they can guarantee “regular minutes” for Elliott, while the presence of his former LFC teammate James Milner could also “play a role in facilitating the move”.

Chelsea to snap up another young talent?

Chelsea will also be an interesting name to watch, though, as the Blues seem prepared to make this slightly surprising raid on their rivals.

Of course, we know Chelsea are always keen to bring in the best young talent from around the world, and Elliott could be a good fit.

Still, it remains to be seen if Liverpool will be open to allowing Elliott to join a top four rival like that, or if they’ll focus on trying to do a deal with someone like Brighton instead.

Elliott himself might also struggle for regular playing time at Stamford Bridge, which would surely not be as much of a concern at Brighton.
