Tottenham agree seven-figure deal for 'modern No. 9' as Alejo Veliz exit looms

Europa League champions Tottenham Hotspur have agreed to sign young striker Oliver Boast from Leeds United (h/t the Athletic).

Spurs have continued their push to secure elite young talent for the future by picking up the highly-rated 16-year-old.

Boast has chosen to join Tottenham despite a strong development pathway at Elland Road.

Leeds are renowned for giving youngsters opportunities to prove themselves in the first team.

However, he has opted to carve out his journey in north London despite players like Harry Gray breaking through at Leeds.

Interestingly, Spurs signed Gray’s brother, Archie Gray, from Leeds last summer.

Tottenham moved quickly to secure Boast, agreeing a seven-figure fee with Leeds to avoid a compensation tribunal.

Per the report, former coaches describe Boast as a “modern No.9” with pace, intelligent movement, and the ability to lead the line as a lone striker.

He made his under-18 debut at just 15 and progressed rapidly, earning England under-16 recognition before stepping up to the Leeds under-21 team earlier this year.

Tottenham believe the teenager can thrive in their set-up, with the club making a concerted effort to strengthen their senior and youth squads.

Meanwhile, Spurs are in advanced talks with Racing Club over a deal for Argentine striker Alejo Veliz.

According to Juan Pablo De Luca, the Avellaneda-based club has already submitted a formal offer and is optimistic about finalising the deal this weekend.

Veliz joined Tottenham from Rosario Central in the summer of 2023 but has struggled to establish himself in Europe, enduring disappointing loan spells with Sevilla and Espanyol.

With first-team opportunities limited, Spurs appear open to cutting ties, and Racing Club are moving swiftly to bring him back to South America.

It could be a defining weekend for Tottenham, investing in one potential star while moving on from another.
