Mateo Joseph has been hotly tipped to depart Leeds United this summer, with Manchester United potentially having a say in his next destination.
The forward has spent the last few weeks away at the U21 Euros with Spain, and in that time, speculation has continued to mount about a potential future away from South Yorkshire.
Real Betis have been pushing to sign Joseph, but negotiations between the two clubs have proved extremely difficult.
The 21-year-old struggled for gametime for the Whites last term, and the expectation is that he will fall further down Daniel Farke’s pecking order this summer as the 49ers seek to strengthen the squad ahead of the upcoming Premier League return.

Girona eye Joseph and Anthony to replace Stuani
The race to sign Joseph this summer had seemed like a straight shootout between Real Betis and Birmingham City, but now it looks as though it could be a third candidate who could ultimately decide his future.

La Liga side Girona are unsure about the future of their captain Cristhian Stuani, according to the print edition of Mundo Deportivo (27 June, pg.18).
With the veteran goalscorer’s future up in the air at the Spanish upstarts, they have already drawn up a list of potential replacements, which includes Joseph and Manchester United’s Anthony among a few others.
The latter has been linked with a return to Betis after a hugely successful loan spell saw him revitalised in the second half of last season, but now it seems he could be on the move elsewhere in the Spanish top flight.
If the cards fall into place for Girona and they are able to realistically work towards a deal for the Brazilian, they would surely have little interest in also pursuing a move for Joseph, considering the disparity in top-level experience between the two.

Joseph needs regular football away from Leeds
Joseph seems destined to leave Elland Road this summer, and it’s evident that he needs to seek a move where he can secure regular gametime for the good of his career.
He has failed to consistently add goals and assists to his game for the Whites, and with Farke’s ambitions set to shift pretty drastically following their promotion, there will be little room for handing development opportunities to the likes of Joseph.

The youngster started just 11 games in the league last term, and that simply isn’t enough for him to continue to progress and ultimately to maximise his potential. It’s clear that the striker needs to move away from his boyhood club this summer.
He should then give his priority to whichever potential suitor would likely place him as a central part of their plans.
The possibility of Europa League football at Betis is undoubtedly an attractive one, but that would surely result in him once again competing against more established alternatives for a place in the side.
