Arsenal fans are becoming increasingly frustrated by the club’s perceived lack of activity in the transfer market, whilst all their main rivals are getting deals done.
Although there are plenty of rumours, very little concrete appears to have been achieved, apart from contract extensions for Gabriel Magalhães and Myles Lewis-Skelley, and finalisation of Martin Zubímedi’s move which has been in the pipeline for months.
That may be about to change, however, and like London buses, two transfers may be about to come along at once.
First Arsenal agreed a deal to sign Brentford captain Christian Nørgaard and now they are set to activate the ₤5 million release clause of Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga.
Kepa remains the world’s most expensive goalkeeper, having signed for Chelsea for ₤72 million in 2018 from Athletic Bilbao.
He spent last season on loan at Bournemouth and played a major role as they achieved their best ever Premier League finish.
The 30-year old, who passed his medical earlier this week, will provide competition to David Raya, and although he is primarily a back-up, can expect to feature in plenty of cup games for the Gunners.
Andy is an exiled English football fan living in Cyprus. He loves all sports but football is his abiding passion, and he still has dreams every now and then about scoring the winning goal in a Wembley Cup Final, even though his playing days are long gone. He follows most major leagues, across Europe at least, and has a favoured team in each. When he’s not watching, listening, reading or downloading podcasts about football, he spend his time worrying about his beloved Arsenal.
