The millions in Club World Cup prize money Man City have bagged after Juventus win, a transfer…

Manchester City have enjoyed a fun Club World Cup so far and have already earned a pretty penny from the competition.

Pep Guardiola has been lamenting the extra burden the Club World Cup will put on his Manchester City players for years but that doesn’t mean he isn’t taking it seriously.

City became the first team to win all three of their group games on Thursday, clinching top spot by defeating Juventus 5-2.

Though it was a slow game in the Floridian heat, there were injections of pace and skill, especially from star of the show, Jeremy Doku, who bagged the opener.

An own-goal and strikes from Erling Haaland, Phil Foden and Savinho followed as City easily swept aside the competition.

As a result, City have added yet another £1.5m to their increasing prize pot for the competition.

Manchester City’s winnings in the Club World Cup so far

In their bid to get clubs and players genuinely excited about the newly expanded World Cup, FIFA has put a massive amount of prize money on the line.

A huge £1.5m is being given to teams for each win they manage in the group stage, with £800,000 being awarded to both sides in the event of a draw.

As a result, City have pocketed £4.5m alone from their three wins in the group stage.

Additionally, as they have reached the last 16, they have a guaranteed £5.8m as well. That takes their total earnings in the competition so far to £10.3m.

That’s already approaching double the £5.9m Chelsea won after clinching last season’s Europa Conference League.

While such a sum isn’t a vast amount for a club of City’s riches, every little helps in a post-PSR world.

City have already spent over £116m on four new signings this summer and are yet to make much money back in sales.

However, the signing of goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli will already be more than paid off thanks to the Club World Cup winnings.

The Blues paid an undisclosed but minimal fee to Chelsea for the Scott Carson replacement, who, according to The Sun, signed a one-year contract worth £5m. Now his fee and wages are all sorted.

Man City’s next fixture in the Club World Cup

City were forced to wait to discover their round 16 opponents, with Group H not concluding until later in the day.

There was the chance they could face Real Madrid but that fate has been avoided after Los Blancos defeated RB Salzburg 3-0.

The Austrians’ defeat left the door open for Saudi side Al-Hilal to take advantage and their 2-0 win over Pachuca means they finished second and will be City’s opponents in the first knockout round.

As a result, City will come up against former right-back star Joao Cancelo for the first time since his permanent exit in 2024.

Other familiar faces in the Al-Hilal side include Kalidou Koulibaly, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, Renan Lodi, Ruben Neves and Malcolm.
