Bournemouth are determined to keep hold of Antoine Semenyo beyond the summer transfer window despite interest from Tottenham.

That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the 25-year-old remains a key target for Thomas Frank.

Spurs had approached the Cherries to enquire about the winger’s availability but were met with a firm and lofty asking price in an attempt to put them off.

This comes after Football Insider revealed on 23 June that Bournemouth will demand £70million for Semenyo but are planning for his potential departure.

There is a feeling at the Vitality Stadium that an offer at that price would allow them to react immediately to bring in a top-class replacement before the season begins.

This comes after Brown first told Football Insider in October that Bournemouth could price Tottenham out of signing Semenyo with a hefty asking price placed on his head.

Tottenham plot Semenyo swoop as Bournemouth stance revealed

Brown told Football Insider on 10 June that Tottenham would step up their interest in Semenyo after Man United moved to sign Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo.

The former scout, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, has insisted Bournemouth may find it difficult to keep hold of their players.

“There isn’t a lot Bournemouth can do,” he told Football Insider.

“When these types of clubs come looking at your players, they’re always going to be tempted.

“They’ve already lost a couple of key players and it looks like they might lose more.

“With Semenyo, they really want to keep him because he was such a key player going forward and they don’t want to lose many more players.

“They’ve set this £70million asking price in the hope of deterring any interest.

“Tottenham have been made aware of that, from what I’ve heard, after they approached Bournemouth to see whether he might be available.

“They hope that will put them off, but you never know because he is a key target for Spurs.

“If they do get £70million for him, it’s a win-win really, because they can go and spend that money on replacing the players they’ve lost.”

Kyle Walker-Peters update emerges at Spurs

On top of their ambitions of signing Semenyo this summer, Spurs are looking to strengthen throughout the starting XI, with Kyle Walker-Peters now on their radar.

Brown told Football Insider on 24 June that Tottenham are working on signing Walker-Peters on a free transfer and have made contact with his agent.

Spurs are keen to add more homegrown talent to their squad following their qualification for the Champions League, and Walker-Peters is seen as a good fit.

The Southampton man was with Spurs between 2015 and 2020 before leaving for St Mary’s but could be in line for a return after impressing despite his club’s dismal season.
