The future of Luis Diaz at Liverpool has become a cause of concern for the club.

The Colombian winger has been linked with a move to Barcelona this summer.

Diaz, who scored 13 league goals for Liverpool in their title winning season, has reportedly become upset at the club for not offering him a new contract.

He has been a key member of the starting line up since joining the club and despite some inconsistent spells last season, he still managed to play a crucial role in Arne Slot’s title win at Anfield.

Luis Diaz has been crucial for Liverpool

In all competitions last season, the former Porto man scored 18 goals for the Merseyside club.

Despite his solid performance, contract talks have failed to progress. His current deal runs until 2027, and many felt a renewal was a formality.

Colombian journalist Pipe Sierra reported on social media platform X that the forward and his entourage are “upset” and feel let down.

He wrote:

“Exclusive: Luis Díaz and his entourage are upset with #Liverpool’s stance. They feel the club has gone back on their word (once again with the player). Something similar happened before with his contract renewal and now with the possibility of a transfer.”

Reports suggest that Barcelona and Bayern Munich are monitoring Díaz’s situation closely.

While Liverpool rebuffed Barca’s initial interest earlier this summer, the player’s newfound openness to a move has put his Anfield future in doubt.

Liverpool face a critical decision, either reassure Diaz with a new deal or risk losing him amid mounting disquiet and outside interest.

His importance to the team is highly underrated and his ability to play on the wing as well as up front is a quality that helped Slot’s team in winning the league.

The Reds have recently offered new contracts to Virgil Van Dijk and Mohamed Salah. They have signed the likes of Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez.

The way they have acted in the market is commendable but now they need to make sure they keep one of their most important players at the club for a long time.

Along with Diaz, Darwin Nunez is also facing an uncertain future at Anfield.
