Report: Liverpool ready to pounce and sign £10m Bundesliga youngster who is just like Leon Goretzka

Liverpool have been one of the busiest teams in the Premier League during the 2025-26 summer transfer window.

The Reds have already welcomed four new faces to their ranks, with one or two more still expected to be brought in.

Arne Slot’s men were already fairly dominant in the top flight last season, but with the arrival of Florian Wirtz now confirmed, they stand an even better chance of retaining the Premier League title.

And, although Liverpool have spent close to £200million on new signings, due to the sales they’re looking to make, there’s still plenty more room for negotiations with the Reds now set to go head-to-head with Everton for a midfielder likened to Leon Goretzka.

Liverpool to fight Everton for the transfer of Merlin Rohl

The name Merlin Rohl is almost certainly a name that hardly any Liverpool fans will have heard of.

The German midfielder is just 22 years old and has been setting the Bundesliga alight this season, with Liverpool even showing an interest in Rohl earlier this season.

And, as per a new report from SportBILD via SportWitness, it seems like Liverpool are ready to go head-to-head with other Premier League teams to acquire his services.

The report outlines that Everton have already made two offers for the midfielder in January, with Freiburg refusing to sell.

Since then, other Premier League clubs such as Liverpool, Crystal Palace and Newcastle have now put themselves ‘in the picture.’

The report also adds that now Freiburg have ‘added in his position’ a move ‘is not out of the question’ this summer.

However, even though his current valuation is around €12million (£10.2million), the Bundesliga outfit want ‘significantly more’ than that.

Liverpool need to strengthen other areas before their midfield

The main area of Liverpool’s squad that is stocked with talent is their midfield.

Indeed, other areas of their team also have some exceptional talent within them, but as there are only three places in Slot’s team for midfielders, they already have more than enough players to fill those positions.

In fact, Harvey Elliott was given such minimal playing time last term that he’s now being urged to exit Liverpool for the benefit of his career.

Indeed, a new midfielder would help add some new life into the squad, but with players such as Ryan Gravenberch, Wataru Endo and Alexis Mac Allister all fighting for their place in the starting XI, there’s no room for a new addition.

Of course, the window is still young and there’s plenty of room for changes to occur, but at the moment, a midfielder shouldn’t be high on Liverpool’s list of priorities.

Especially since players such as Crystal Palace’s captain Marc Guehi are available on the transfer market this summer.
