Leeds United have money to spend this summer. But that doesn’t mean Daniel Farke won’t be in the market for some bargain additions to his side.
Back in the big time, the 49ers are ready to spend the big bucks in a bid to keep Leeds United there once and for all.
Earlier in the summer it was reported that Leeds United have a £150million transfer budget for this summer: a huge chunk of money, and a chunk of money that Daniel Farke is already putting to good use.
Leeds United have paid £15million to sign Jaka Bijol from Udinese. It’s a few million less than the fee that was initially reported, and it seems like a good price on a player who, by all accounts, is very good.
Elsewhere, there have been reports that Leeds United have had a £32million bid for Rodrigo Muniz rejected, as Fulham hold out for a hopeful £50million for the Brazilian striker.
It shows that Leeds aren’t afraid of spending big this summer. But one player who Farke is keen on and who certainly wouldn’t break the bank is Millwall defender Japhet Tanganga, who former Spurs boss Jose Mourinho once described as a ‘fantastic’ player.

Update on Japhet Tanganga’s future amid Leeds United transfer interest
Earlier in the summer, reports linked Leeds United with a move for Tanganga at Millwall, following the former Spurs man’s impressive 2024/25 season in the Championship. The 26-year-old centre-back, who can also play at right-back, played 40 times in the Championship last season and scored two goals.
Soon after Leeds were linked, though, it was reported that Tanganga wants to move to Europe instead of the Premier League. The Englishman is understood to prefer a move to either France or Germany this summer and TeamTalk have now reported that there is an ‘unnamed Bundesliga team’ pushing to sign Tanganga, whilst teams in France and Turkey are making checks too.

Tanganga has a £1.2million release clause at Millwall which reports have stated Leeds United are ready to activate. However, TeamTalk add that the clause ‘can only be activated by Premier League clubs’, meaning a move to Europe is less straightforward for the player and for Millwall, but potentially more lucrative for the club.

The latest on Leeds United’s search for a new centre-back
After completing a deal for Bijol, it would’ve been safe to assume that Leeds United would put feelers out for players in other positions. Whilst that appears to be the case, we’re still seeing plenty of links to more centre-backs.
Leeds United have been linked with Joe Gomez of late, though subsequent reports have revealed how Liverpool want to keep Gomez beyond this summer, and Gomez intends to stay at Anfield too.
Dara O’Shea is another recent target. But O’Shea has signed a new long-term contract at Ipswich Town and so that avenue has quickly shut for Leeds United.
It could put more emphasis on a deal for Tanganga now. But with the player preferring a move overseas, and with Millwall no doubt preferring that he moves overseas too, a deal for Tanganga looks like it’s more unlikely than likely for Leeds United right now.
