Souček throws out first pitch at European Softball Championship

**Tomáš Souček** is famous for his love of sport, be it football, tennis or athletics – and now you can add softball to that list!

West Ham United’s all-action midfielder was a special guest at the 2025 Men’s European Softball Championship, which is being hosted by his hometown of Havlíčkův Brod in Czechia between 23-28 June.

Accompanied by his family – wife Natálie and three children – a smiling Souček was presented with a national team jersey and invited to throw out the ceremonial first pitch ahead of Czechia’s game against Sweden, and no doubt delivered a strike!

“I am happy to be a special guest here in Halíčka Brod,” the 30-year-old beamed. “We have a beautiful pitch here, a lot of people, a great atmosphere!

“We often organise championships like this one here. I'm happy for that and so I'm happy to come and support such an event. It's great that the children from the local schools and from around the area come along and when the players see such support, they’re happy too.

“I'm a big sportsman and I like to play any sport, so I wish the Czechia team good luck!”

Souček will be happy that his home nation, the reigning European champions, are on course to defend their title after big wins over the Netherlands (14-2), Slovakia (11-0), Belgium (10-1), Great Britain (16-0) and Sweden (15-0) and a harder-fought victory over Denmark (5-2). Already guaranteed a place in the Championship Game on Saturday, the Czechs face Croatia in their final Group A tie on Friday.

Having enjoyed a deserved break with his family in his homeland, Souček and his West Ham teammates will report for pre-season training at Rush Green on Monday 7 July.
