“For sure…” - Fabrizio Romano says Liverpool now in talks to sign “superstar” after Kerkez

Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi is a ‘strong candidate’ to become a new Liverpool player this summer, journalist Fabrizio Romano has exclusively told GIVEMESPORT.

The Premier League winners have identified Guehi as one of their preferred options in their centre-back search and are in ongoing conversations over a potential summer deal.

Guehi, who has a year left on his Selhurst Park contract, reportedly wants guarantees about playing time before making a decision over his next move, while negotiations with Palace are also still to be resolved.

The Eagles stood firm on their valuation of the England international in the past two transfer windows, when they rejected approaches from both Newcastle and Tottenham.

Romano, speaking exclusively to GIVEMESPORT, has revealed that Liverpool have several options in their search for a new centre-back this summer, with Guehi among the preferred targets:

“Mark Guehi at Crystal Palace remains a strong option on the list for Liverpool, not the only one, but for sure, one of the preferred options for Liverpool.

“Then obviously the player wants his guarantees about getting time. The price with Crystal Palace, with the player out of contact in one year, is also going to be an important topic.

“But there are already some conversations ongoing for Marc Guehi. So for sure, he's one of the strong candidates to become a Liverpool player.”

Liverpool are looking to bring in a new central defender amid Jarell Quansah’s impending departure to Bayer Leverkusen for a reported package worth £34m.

The Reds are also facing the prospect of losing Ibrahima Konate on a free next year, as his contract situation is still not resolved with 12 months remaining on his deal.

Liverpool have splashed out heavily on three new signings already this window, welcoming Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez for a total of £186m.

While it remains unclear how much Palace are going to demand for Guehi, their bargaining power is somewhat weaker with a year left on the 'superstar' defender’s contract.
