Man Utd need to sell players if they are to fund their move for a striker in the summer window.

Marcus Rashford is still hopeful he will be able to secure a move to Barcelona in the summer transfer window. The 27-year-old has been frozen out at Manchester United by head coach Ruben Amorim and has been told he is free to find a new club this summer.

Rashford has not played for United since December last year after he was dropped for the Manchester derby win over Man City due to performance issues. The forward then revealed he was open to a new challenge in his professional career before he joined Aston Villa on loan in the January transfer window.

The United loanee showed glimpses of his undeniable talent during his brief spell at Villa Park but has made it his priority to join a Champions League club this summer as he looks to earn a place in the England squad for the World Cup next summer.

Fabrizio Romano issues Marcus Rashford update

Manchester United would prefer to sell Marcus Rashford permanently this summer but appreciate it might be difficult to find a club that is willing to pay a transfer fee and meet his hefty wage demands.

It is understood United value Rashford at roughly £40 million while he is one of United's highest paid players, with wages of around £325,000 a week. The financial package is troublesome for any suitor this summer, particularly if Rashford wants to fulfil his childhood dream of playing for Barcelona.

United could sanction a loan exit if they receive a loan fee for the forward, though they might have to subsidise his wages to get him off their books. United would save an estimated £17m a year if a team paid all of Rashford's wages, so even saving half of that would make a huge difference to their finances.

Writing in his latest GIVEMESPORT newsletter, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano issued a brief update on Rashford's future and reiterated that while he is expected to leave this summer, there is nothing close. "Nothing imminent, like in the next hours. But he’s still expected to go this summer," he said.
