Leicester City have announced that they have parted ways with Ruud van Nisterooy.

Leicester City have confirmed that they have parted ways with Ruud van Nistelrooy following relegation back to the Championship.

There has been a lot of speculation over the Dutchman's future since the end of the season, with the Foxes now confirming that he has left the club as they prepare for life back in the Championship.

Leicester endured a season to forget in 2024/25. Van Nistelrooy arrived at the club back in November, just weeks after his departure from United following the appointment of Ruben Amorim.

However, the former forward unable to save Leicester from relegation. The club finished in 18th place in the table, 13 points from safety. The search for his replacement will now start with the club looking to again bounce straight back in the new season.

In a club statement, Leicester said: "Leicester City Football Club and Ruud van Nistelrooy have mutually agreed that Ruud’s contract with the Club as First Team Manager will terminate with immediate effect.

"Ruud has overseen a challenging period for the Club. From his appointment in November 2024, he approached the role with professionalism, integrity and a clear commitment to our aims, including through the integration of several promising players from the Club’s Academy into our First Team environment. Ruud moves on with the respect and thanks of everyone at the Football Club for his dedication and hard work, and with our very best wishes for the future.

"Preparation for the EFL Championship season will continue with the planned start of pre-season on Monday 30 June. First Team coaching staff will oversee the delivery of those plans until a new manager is appointed."
